Summary

I strongly recommend reading this AdderRx review in full before buying this nootropic. In my opinion, AdderRx is a scam. It contains unknown doses of untested and potentially dangerous stimulants. One AdderRx ingredient is totally untested in humans. This is not a nootropic, it’s a rip-off.

What is AdderRx?

AdderRx is a nootropic energy supplement made by NexGen. This “study supplement” is sold primarily through Walmart, CVS and Walgreens. It is not a prescription drug, but rather a supplement marketed as a kind of natural Adderall alternative.

According to the Walmart sales page, AdderRx can:

  1. Increase focus
  2. Improve memory
  3. Increase energy
  4. Boost concentration

The name AdderRx is clearly meant to emulate the word “Adderall“. NexGen have also given the formula a scientific sounding name: Nuphetamine HCM. Again, this has been done to make people think this is a kind of OTC amphetamine supplement similar to Adderall.

This is usually a sure sign of a scam.

AdderRx ingredients

What is in AdderRx? Let’s take a look at the formula and find out.

Here is the AdderRx ingredients list as shown on the label:

AdderRx ingredients

Here is a list of the ingredients and dosages:

  • Dimethylaminoethanol – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • 1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • Beta-Phenylethylamine – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • L-Theanine – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • CDP-Choline – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • Synephrine HCL – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • N, N-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl ethylamine – DOSE UNKNOWN
  • Schizandrol A – DOSE UNKNOWN

This is a very worrying formula. There are multiple stimulants in here, none of which have stated dosages or strengths. Many have been severely understudied in humans. This is extremely irresponsible for a supplement manufacturer.

I’ll now go through each AdderRx ingredient, explaining what it is and how it works.

Dimethylaminoethanol – DOSE UNKNOWN

Dimethylaminoethanol, or DMAE as it is more commonly known, is not a very commonly used nootropic. DMAE is said to enhance focus and learning in a similar way to the cholinergics such as CDP-Choline and Choline bitartrate. However, I have never found any concinving evidence showing that DMAE actually works as claimed. I find the fact that DMAE is one of the main nootropic ingredients in AdderRx very disappointing.

Pregnant women should avoid DMAE like the plague. One clinical trial found that DMAE caused severe birth defects in mice when fed to their mothers. Anyone considering trying for a baby should stay away from DMAE.

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine – DOSE UNKNOWN

Don’t be fooled by the name 1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine. This is just a chemical name for plain old caffeine. The makers of AdderRx chose to list the ingredient this way to make their product seem more like a pharmceutical drug. Caffeine is a great nootropic; it boosts energy, reduces fatigue, heightens alertness and increases motivation.
However, you NEED to know the dose of caffeine you’re taking in order to avoid serious side effects. I suspect AdderRx is loaded upw ith caffeine since we arne’t given an exact dose.

Beta-Phenylethylamine – DOSE UNKNOWN

Beta-Phenylethylamine is an amine, but it is not like the amine neurotransmitters dopamine or serotonin. Beta-Phenylethylamine does have some interesting physiological effects. It acts as a powerful central nervous system stimulant.

In one study, researchers found that Beta-Phenylethylamine may be a biomarker for ADHD. Children with ADHD appeared to have lower levels of Beta-Phenylethylamine in their urine, and children treated with Ritalin showed elevated Beta-Phenylethylamine levels in their urine post-treatment. But this does not mean that Beta-Phenylethylamine should be added to a supplement like AdderRx! It is a powerful molecule with a diverse array of functions in the body. It is associated with ADHD, but also with schizophrenia and depression.

L-Theanine – DOSE UNKNOWN

L-Theanine is a common amin acid found in great abundance in black tea. But L-Theanine also has some very interesting nootropic properties. Theanien works hand-in-hand with caffeine, heightening the stimulant’s beneficial effects while suppressing side effects. It also seems to reduce anxiety, promote calm clear-headed thinking, and promote restful sleep.

Once again, the fact that AdderRx fails to disclose the dose makes me mighty suspicious. You need to be taking theanine on a 2:1 ratio with caffeine to really feel the benefits, and 150mg as an absolute minimum.

CDP-Choline – DOSE UNKNOWN

CDP-Choline is one of the most effective natural nootropics in existence. It is also one of the most thoroughly studied nootropics, and dozens of clinical trials have proven that CDP-Choline supplementation greatly improves multiple different aspects of cognitive performance, from focus and learning to memory function and reaction times. It may also help protect against brain injuries, and to some extent foster post-injury recovery.

As with the other ingredients in AdderRx though, the lack of dose information is a major problem. The minimum effective dose of CDP-Choline is about 150mg. There’s no way of knowing if AdderRx contains this much, but it’s doubtful.

Synephrine HCL – DOSE UNKNOWN

Synephrine is more commonly found in fat burners and weight loss pills than in nootropics. But many supplments which bill themselves as natural Adderal alternatives, like AderRx cleary does, include ingredients like Synephrine.

Synephrine is said to have similar effects to ephedrine, which mimmicks norepinephrine, because these molecules have similar structures. This is stupdi reasoning of course; bleach and water are “structurally similar”, but you can only drink one of them! Synephrine does nothing but increase the chances of experiencing severe side effects. It has no beneficial nootropic effects at all, and it doesn’t boost energy levels.

N, N-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl ethylamine – DOSE UNKNOWN

Once again, don’t be fooled by the fancy name AdderRx uses on the label to impress the gullible; this is hordenine. Like synephrine, hordenine is a stimulant most often used in cheap diet pills and appetite suppressants. People clai that hordenine increases your metabolism and thus spus weight loss. However, there is little evidence ofr these effects. The trials which did produce effcts were conducted on animals using injections; oral consumption of hordenine does nothing but increase side effect risks.

With cafeine, synephrine and hordenine, AdderRx is quickly looking like a scammy diet pill and less and less like a nootropic or Adderall alternative.

Schizandrol A – DOSE UNKNOWN

This is not a well understood substance at all. Schizandrol A is an extract from a plant, and some sources claim it somehow stimulates the production of dopamine. But hard scientific evidence and information is practically non-existent; as far as I can tell this AdderRx ingredient has never been studied in humans. It is not a nootropic, and it has no place in this supplement.

Formula analysis: Is AdderRx a good Adderall alternative?

After doiong a detailed review of the AdderRx formla, I have to say that this is not a good nootropic at all!

I will never recommend a proprietary blend to anybody because they are a sure sign you’re being ripped off! There’s no good reason to hide ingredient dosages; all the best nootropics disclose their ingredients and doses in full, so AdderRx can too. The only reason the manufacturer would hide the dosages is to disguise how bad AdderRx really is!

For all we know, the majority of the 770mg AdderRx proprietary blend could be theanine and caffeine. If that’s the case, the $30 price tag is SUPER overinflated!

Like many nootropics sold as alternatives to Adderall, AdderRx is just packed full of stimulants. Caffeine, Synephrine and Hordenine are all – at least supposedly – central nervous system stimulants. Hordenine and Synephrine lack conclusive proof of efficacy, but if hey are stimulants, this combo can quickly land you in trouble in terms of side effects.

The choice of cholinergic in AdderRx is also an issue. Each serving of AdderRx gives us both DMAE and CDP-Choline. DMAE is by far the inferior cholinergic here; it is not reliable and it is known to cause birth defects in mice. AdderRx would be a much bettr nootropic if it just dosed CDP-Choline properly.

Schizandrol A is the terrible icing on the cake here. This is a completely unstudied ingredient with no known nootropic effects whatsoever. I don’t see why anybody would consume this or Neta-Pheylyethylamine in any circumstances or for any reason.

All in all then, AdderRx is a terriblenootropic supplemnt. After a thorough review of the AdderRx ingredients, I can’t find a single redeeming feature.

If you want help focusing, you need more mental energy, or you want to enhance your overall cognitive performance, use a high quality nootropic with a transaprent formula. Don’t waste your money on scams like AdderRx.

AdderRx side effects: Is it safe?

Is AdderRx safe? Will it cause side effects?

The answer is that AdderRx is not safe and it is highly likely to cause side effects. Like 90% of supplements marketed as Adderall alternatives, AdderRx is most likely just packed with caffeine. This tricks users into thinking it’s really working while charging them $30 for simple caffeine pills.

AdderRx side effects

Most of the ingredients in AdderRx actually give me reason to worry about side effects.

Caffeine causes serious side effects at relatively low doses. These side effects include:

  • Anxiety
  • Jitters
  • Hypertension
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Elevated heart rate
  • Insomnia

We have no way of knowing how much caffeine is in AdderRx. All we know is that the total serving size is 770mg, which means there could potentially be a LOT of caffeine in AdderRx.

The chances of side effects are made much worse by the inclusion of Hordenine and Synephrine; two ingredients common in weight loss pills, both said to be potent stimulants in their own right.

Schizandrol A is totally unstudied in humans. That by itself is a major side effect risk.

So no, AdderRx is not safe. AdderRx is dangerous and highly likely to cause side effects. If you experience any side effects whatsoever while taking AdderRx, stop using it immediately and seek medical attention. If you insist on using this nootropic, avoid any other sources of cafeine.

Medical disclaimer

I am not a doctor. This is not mdical advice. You must do your own research carefully before using any notropic supplements, especially AdderRx! Please talk to your regular physician before using this supplement if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.

AdderRx review conclusion: Is this a good nootropic for people with ADHD?

Is AdderRx a good option for people with ADHD symptoms?

Is it worth the price?

Is AdderRx a good nootropic?

The answer to all fo these questions is an emphatic no. AdderRx is an awful nootropic that I would not recommend to anybody for any purpose.

AdderRx uses a proprietary blend. The only supplements which fail to disclose their ingredient doses are scams and rip-offs.

AdderRx is packed full of stimulants, some of which have limited proof of efficacy and serious side effect risks.

Some of the AdderRx ingredients are totally untested in humans.

The nootropics that are in AdderRx are substandard and unlikly to be dosed properly.

This is a terrible nootropic whatever way you look at it.

If you are stuggling with symptoms of ADHD, then you should talk to a medical professional. If you want a nootropic to enhance focus, memory and learning, then there are much better options out there than AdderRx.
